My classroom Gifts Project is a process of student self-discovery. On the Gifts Project worksheets, students identify their own interests and abilities. Each student then selects the most important self-strengths. With my recognition and encouragement, students adapt their school work in ways they decide to utilize their own self-chosen talents, strengths and abilities. I remind my students that the word education means to bring out that which is within.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;WHAT -- Parents join in this self-discovery process. When affirmation of student identified strengths comes from parents, it gives power to the child's motivation to work hard, do a good job and be responsible. With teacher, parents and students working together; school work and homework become self-rewarding. "My students." Mrs. Blumberg says, "begin to reach for the stars and gain confidence that they can accomplish great things. I feel validated at a teacher."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;HOW -- Students who volunteer to participate in the Gifts Project get extra credit for their extra work. This project provides a vehicle for students to feel the power of self-direction. Self-directed, self-discovery enables each student to embark on a highly motivated positive path.
