Inherent Strengths
Each Student
Students have inherent
strengths. The word inherent means innate, inborn, internal and
congenitally obtained by birth.
Each Teacher
Teachers can bring
out the inherent strengths of each student. Educate means to
bring out that which is within.
Each Parent
Parents have the right
to expect educators to help each student discover his and her
inherent strengths. Then, educators can encourage this development.
Persons With the Gift of Dyslexia
Who Claimed Their Inherent Strengths:
Robin Williams, Thomas Edison,
Tom Cruise, Ansel Adams, Jay Leno, Albert Einstein, Billy Bob
Thornton, Alexander Graham Bell, George Patton, Cher, Winston
Churchill, John Lennon, John Kennedy, Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow
Wilson, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Agatha Christi, Fanny Flagg, Erin
Brockovich, Magic Johnson, Muhammad Ali, Pablo Picasso. All
persons who lead useful and worthwhile lives have claimed their
inherent strengths.
TEACHERS -- HERE IS HOW
Ask students to look around the room and write down
two or three inherent strengths seen in fellow students. Teacher
reads inherent strengths (no names).
Ask students to write down inherent strengths seen
in SELF. Teacher suggests curiosities, interests, abilities,
talents, etc., that are evidence of inherent strengths. Students
give each one's list to the teacher. (Confidential)
Teacher focuses and encourages student work that helps to develop
each student's inherent strengths. This concept and development
is designed to occur within the framework of academics, sports,
electives and general education.
